The Infinity Saga limited edition box set is now available and shedding new light on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the exclusive deleted scenes from the limited set is the often talked about debut of Captain Marvel in 2015's Age of Ultron. Joss Whedon originally had plans to introduce Carol Danvers in the movie, but Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige wasn't really into the idea. However, it's at that time that the hype surrounding Captain Marvel started to take shape.

In the Age of Ultron deleted scene, a stand-in was used for the then uncast Captain Marvel. She was set to appear when Captain America and Black Widow check out their new recruits at the Avengers HQ. Falcon flies in, Vision and Scarlet Witch are also present, and so is War Machine. However, it's at this point that Joss Whedon wanted to introduce Carol Danvers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The deleted scene shows an unnamed actress as a stand-in and even rewinds to show an arrow to the character.

In 2015, there were plenty of rumors about Captain Marvel being introduced in Age of Ultron. Both Kevin Feige and Joss Whedon have talked about the situation more than once since the release of the movie. In a 2015 interview, Feige addressed the situation and why it wasn't the best timing for Danvers to be introduced. He had this to say.

"The way we reveal Scarlet Witch (in costume) at the end of the movie? Those were Captain Marvel plate shots. Joss said, 'We'll cast her later!' And I said, 'Yeah Joss, we'll cast her later.' (Whispers to an invisible associate who isn't Joss) 'We're not putting her in there!' Finally Joss was like 'Let's use those plates to let Scarlet Witch fly into frame, give her a big entrance?'"

It sounds like it was a wise decision to wait on Captain Marvel and shows just how well Kevin Feige knows about patience. Brie Larson was announced as Carol Danvers in 2016 and her standalone movie didn't hit theaters until 2019, which shows just how long Feige had entertained bringing the character to the fold. However, there were talks in 2014 about bringing Carol Danvers into the MCU. Had Feige and crew not waited, Captain Marvel might not have been as well-received as it was and it might not have even taken place in the 1990s, which was crucial to storyline.

In the end, Marvel Studios chose to wait on introducing Captain Marvel until after Infinity War. This put the character in a prime spot and was able to really focus on the true power of Carol Danvers. As Kevin Feige has said in the past, the character is the strongest superhero to be shown in the MCU thus far and much like Nick Fury waited to call on Danvers, Feige did the same.
