Hell on Wheels star Anson Mount has landed the lead role of Black Bolt in the Marvel's Inhumans television series. Marvel's Inhumans will explore the never-before-told epic adventure of the royal family including Black Bolt, the enigmatic, commanding King of the Inhumans, with a voice so powerful that the slightest whisper can destroy a city. With casting just now getting under way, it remains to be seen how many more roles still need to be filled.

It was previously announced that a version of the first two episodes of the new ABC series will premiere exclusively in IMAX theatres for a two-week window in September 2017, prior to the 8-episode network run. Marvel's Inhumans, were first introduced in Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965. Since that time, they have grown in prominence and become some of the most popular and iconic characters in the Marvel Universe. Here's what Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television and Executive Producer, had to say in a statement.

"Anson loves the challenge of playing a character who will only communicate silently. His enthusiasm mixed with his imposing almost regal persona made it easy to see why he is our Black Bolt."

Vin Diesel had been rumored to star as Black Bolt when Inhumans was being set up as a movie, part of Marvel's Phase 3 lineup, but Guardians of the Galaxy 2 director James Gunn recently revealed that Vin Diesel will likely not take a pay cut to star in a TV show. Marvel recently announced that Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones, Misfits, Vicious) will portray Maximus, a clever and charming Inhuman that is fiercely devoted to the people of Attilan, especially his brother, Black Bolt, though he harbors an intense desire to wear the crown himself. Here's what executive producer and showrunner Scott Buck had to say in his statement.

"Black Bolt is a character whose deep complexity must be conveyed without uttering a single word, and I'm very excited to have Anson on board to bring him to life."

This series was first announced just a few months ago, when IMAX Corp., Marvel Television, a unit of Marvel Entertainment, and Disney ABC Television Group announced an innovative agreement to exclusively premiere the new ABC series Marvel's Inhumans in IMAX commercial theatres. This marks the first time a live-action television series has debuted in this manner. ABC, IMAX and Marvel Television also intend to work together to create a joint marketing and promotion plan for the series across their proprietary media platforms, which would be the first such cross-platform marketing launch of a television series. This deal also marks IMAX's first time as a financing participant in a TV pilot and series. Marvel's Inhumans is executive produced by Scott Buck (Dexter, Marvel's Iron Fist) along with Jeph Loeb (Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Luke Cage) and Jim Chory (Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage) with Buck serving as showrunner. Roel Reine (Admiral, Black Sails) will direct the first two episodes. The series is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios.
