ABC is getting ready to premiere their latest Marvel TV series next month with Inhumans. The Marvel Comics property was originally going to arrive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a movie in 2019, but that idea has since been shelved in favor of this 8 episode event series that is going to make its debut in IMAX theaters. A bold proposition, no doubt. So, did it pay off? According to the first full review for Inhumans, not only did it not pay off, but the show is said to be a "disappointment on every level."

IGN posted their Inhumans review a bit early, but before they were able to pull it, the word had made its way out. Their review is absolutely scathing and promises that what could have been Marvel's Game of Thrones is actually a cheap, clunky version of what could have been. Here some of what IGN had to say about the series.

"This might sound like the MCU's version of Game of Thrones, and it certainly had the potential to be with its superhero monarchy and plays for power, but the show is a disappointment on every level. The costumes and makeup look like a group of friends decided to do Inhumans cosplay the day before Comic-Con. The royal palace, a main setting, looks like a warehouse on the outside and is full of bland, forgettable spaces on the inside. The clunky dialogue sounds like a first draft, not the sharp material you'd expect from the MCU. "

Some of this may not come as a surprise. Ever since the first image of the Inhumans cast made its way online, many fans expressed concern over the look and the costumes, which did look like cheap cosplay. But sometimes photos don't tell the whole story. And sometimes an actor can overcome a look that isn't ideal. Sadly, if this review is any indication, the cast of Inhumans can't overcome the bad show they are trapped in.

"Iwan Rheon's Maximus is Diet Loki, the jealous, scheming brother of King Black Bolt, but he's given such insidious dialogue and direction that his motivations are immediately obvious. (Also, there's one scene in particular where it seems no one on set pointed out that Rheon's accent was coming through.) The few action scenes we find the characters in are filled with unimpressive visual effects and tepid choreography. Not even Lockjaw, the obscenely cute, giant, teleporting dog is enough to make you want to sit through another episode."

ABC has had luck with Marvel TV shows in the past. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been a big success and, despite the ratings numbers not being what they needed to be, there is a massive fanbase for Agent Carter. So there was reason to think that Inhumans could work as a series, but this review states that, not only should you not shell out to see it in IMAX, but that fans shouldn't even bother once it arrives on TV.

"Inhumans is bad from top to bottom. Try as it might, the show does not live up to the Marvel brand. It is most definitely not worth seeing in IMAX, and I wouldn't recommend catching it on TV either."

This is just one review and we are sure to get many more takes on Marvel's Inhumans before the first episode show arrives in theaters this weekend, with the series set to air on ABC on September 29. Unfortunately, early indication is that Marvel's royal family deserves better. Maybe Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige can revive the movie and give Black Bolt, Medusa, Lockjaw and the gang the movie they deserve during the MCU's Phase 4.
