StudioCanal has come aboard to co-finance Inside Llewyn Davis, a new drama from Joel Coen and Ethan Coen.

The indie drama centers on a folk singer struggling to survive in 1960s New York. We reported back in June that Joel Coen and Ethan Coen are loosely basing this project on real-life folk singer Dave van Ronk, who died in 2002. His work is said to have influenced Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell.

Joel Coen and Ethan Coen will direct Inside Llewyn Davis from their own original screenplay. Scott Rudin will produce the drama while Robert Graf will executive produce. The Coen Brothers last collaborated with Scott Rudin and Robert Graf on the Oscar-nominated Western True Grit.

A distributor for Inside Llewyn Davis has not been selected yet, and it isn't known when production will start.
