Last summer, fans went back to The Further when Insidious Chapter 3 hits theaters, directed by Leigh Whannell, who helped co-create the franchise with writer-director James Wan. Nearly one year later, Blumhouse has officially announced the next installment of this horror franchise, Insidious Chapter 4. The production company released a new video earlier today confirming that franchise regular Lin Shaye will be return as Elise Rainer, along with announing the new director and a fall 2017 release date.

The video, which was posted on Blumhouse.com earlier today, shows Lin Shaye playing with a deck of tarot cards, when she's joined by Leigh Whannell in producer Jason Blum's office. The actress, pouring over the cards, says she's "getting something" before flipping them over to reveal that Insidious Chapter 4 will be written by Leigh Whannell, directed by Adam Robitel and it will hit theaters on October 20, 2017. As of now, the only other movie set for release on October 20, 2017 is Warner Bros.' Live By Night, which stars Ben Affleck.

Adam Robitel made his feature film debut with 2014's The Taking of Deborah Logan, and he also wrote the screenplay for Blumhouse's Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, which hit theaters last fall. Original Insidious director James Wan is production alongside Blumhouse's Jason Blum, Oren Peli and Leigh Whannell. Steven Schneider, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Charles Layton serve as executive producers, with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions financing the film. Domestic distribution will be handled by Universal Pictures, while Sony will handle international distribution.

With an October 2017 release date already in place, production will most likely start sometime later this year, although no further cast members have been confirmed aside from Lin Shaye. Last year's Insidious Chapter 3 served as a prequel to the first two movies, showing how psychic Elise Rainier used her abilities to help a teenage girl Stefanie Scott who had been haunted by a supernatural presence. Angus Sampson and Leigh Whannell also reprised their on-camera roles as Tucker and Specs in Insidious Chapter 3, but we'll have to wait and see if they'll return in Insidious Chapter 4.

The original Insidious earned $54 million domestically and $97 million worldwide, from just a $1.5 million budget. The follow-up Insidious Chapter 2 fared much better in theaters, taking in $83.5 million domestically and $161.9 million worldwide from a $5 million budget. Insidious Chapter 3 earned $52.2 million domestically and $112.9 million worldwide from a $10 million budget. While we await more details on Insidious Chapter 4, take a look at this new video with Lin Shaye and Leigh Whannell below.
