Intrepid Pictures has bought the rights to the sci-fi thriller, Prodigy, hoping to sell it to for Rogue Pictures.

The film is based on Dave Kalstein's novel; he's also been hired to write the screenplay, notes The Hollywood Reporter. The story, set in the near future, centers on an elite prep school that promises to turn teenagers into geniuses through a drug and diet regimen for a hefty half-million-dollar tuition. When several alumni turn up dead, the school's impoverished valedictorian, on scholarship, is assigned to investigate the murders, leading him to a fellow student who might be the victim of a cover-up.

Production for Prodigy is targeted for next year.
