A new trailer for IP Man 4 has arrived. The latest, and presumably final entry, in the martial arts franchise reunites star Donnie Yen with director Wilson Yip for one last go-around. The first movie in the series was released in 2008 and, in the ensuing decade, Yen brought the legend to the screen twice more, resulting in some of the most memorable and beloved entries in the genre in some time. Now, we've got a new look at what's coming down the pipeline for the fourth movie in the series ahead of its U.S. release.

Arriving shortly after the IP Man 4 teaser, the hook in this first official trailer is that Ip Man is making his way to America. The whole thing kicks off with a pretty funny exchange at a school, with the martial artist trying to explain that he teaches kung fu to a rather confused woman. We then get into the meat and potatoes of the whole thing, which is just a whole bunch of excellent fight sequences. One after another. One of the other big things to note here is Kwok-Kwan Chan, who is portraying martial arts legend Bruce Lee. Hopefully, this will result in a less controversial turn for Chan then the one Mike Moh made in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

The Ip Man franchise, starring Donnie Yen, is based on a real-life martial artist. Ip Man lived from 1893 to 1972 and is credited with the creation of the fighting style known as Wing Chun. But he's most famous for having Bruce Lee, who would go on to become one of the world's biggest action stars, as a student. The first two movies in the series didn't feature Lee at all. Prior to the third movie, there were plans to use a CGI version of Lee in order to bring the character to the franchise because they simply couldn't find an actor to play the part. Ultimately, Kwok-Kwan Chan was chosen.

Ip Man 4: the Finale, which began shooting in April of 2018, centers on Ip Man's life after his wife's death, which remains largely unchanged. However, he and his son are slowly drifting apart. In the hopes of finding a better future for his son, he decides to travel to the U.S. only to find a stable and peaceful life abroad. While things seem peaceful on the surface, Ip Man finds a great deal of racial discrimination that is far worse than he has expected. This forces Ip Man to re-examine his life as he ponders on the reason he took up martial arts in the beginning.

The cast also includes Scott Adkins, Wu Yue and Van Ness. Director Wilson Yip helmed all three previous entries in the series, which has provided true consistency. Hopefully, having him back will help make this a satisfying finale to the series. Ip Man 4: The Finale is set to hit theaters in the U.S. on December 25 from Well Go USA Entertainment.
