Marvel Studios has hired xXx screenwriter Rich Wilkes to write its new comic book adaptation Iron Fist, according to Deadline New York.

The comic book was created by Ray Thomas and Gil Kane in the 1970s and centers on Danny Rand, a martial arts expert who gains a mystical power that turns his fists into indestructible weapons.

We reported a few weeks back that Iron Fist was among the films in a new wave of comic book adaptations, along with S.H.I.E.L.D., Black Panther, Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy, that Marvel Studios had planned.

Marvel had previously tried to make an Iron Fist film with martial arts legend Ray Park attached to star over a decade ago. But that film never came to fruition.

We'll certainly keep you posted with any further details on Iron Fist and any other upcoming Marvel Studios comic book adaptations as soon as we have more information.
