Iron Man 3 had a very strong opening day as it blazed across the domestic box office to take in $68.5 million. It earned $15.6 million of that during Midnight showings on Thursday.

Though in the top ten best opening days in history, the movie failed to meet the demands of Marvel's The Avengers, which brought in over $80 million at the box office last year at this time. The Dark Knight Rises took in $75.7 on its opening day last July. And Tony Stark wasn't any match for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, which had an amazing $91 million opening day in 2011. Iron Man 3 is currently tied with 2010's The Twilight Saga: Eclipse in 7th place.

So far, Iron Man 3 has racked up impressive numbers overseas, pulling in over $345 million.

Right now, box office analysis put the film at $165 million for the weekend. Some think it might score the second best weekend of all time, right behind Marvel's The Avengers' $207.4 million. Though, it might still fall in third behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, which scored an impressive $169.2 million.
