12-year-old actor Ty Simpkins, who starred in Iron Man 3 and Insidious Chapter 2 this year, has signed on for a lead role in Jurassic World.

New Girl and Drinking Buddies star Jake Johnson is also in contention for an unspecified role, although the studio has not confirmed his possible involvement. If he signs on, the actor will reunite with his Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow. We reported last month that Bryce Dallas Howard is in talks for another lead role, although it isn't known if that deal has been finalized yet.

Colin Trevorrow is directing from a screenplay by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), with Frank Marshall producing and Steven Spielberg executive producing. The story reportedly centers on a working theme park with real-life dinosaurs that attracts millions of visitors a year. We reported in April that the sequel will feature a never-before-seen dinosaur. It isn't known when production will begin.

Ty Simpkins made his acting debut in Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds. His other credits include Little Children, Revolutionary Road and The Next Three Days.
