J.J. Abrams may have found his Captain James T. Kirk. According to The Hollywood Reporter, hot new actor Chris Pine is in discussions to play the role originated by William Shatner in the upcoming big screen adaptation.

The actor is also being considered for a role in the upcoming George Clooney film White Jazz. The project is an adaptation of the James Ellroy crime novel of the same name. If the actor wins both roles, scheduling conflicts may arise.

Star Trek is set to shoot from November until March. White Jazz will begin shooting in January. While Pine's schedule is being sorted, Paramount is continuing to look for a possible Kirk replacement in case things don't work out and he decides not to do the role.
