Universal Pictures has quickly responded to a story that claims documents stolen by online hackers prove Emma Watson is set to play the lead character Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey.

The studio shot down the rumor with this very brief statement.

"No one has been cast yet."

The documents were stolen from the offices of German studio Constantin Film by the notorious hacker group Anonymous. Constantin did acknowledge that they were hacked, but also said those documents were out of date and widely accessible to several employees. Does this mean Emma Watson was cast at one point? Is she still cast, and the studio doesn't want to confirm that just yet? Emma Watson did recently turn down the lead role in Cinderella. Is this the reason why?

Actress Mila Kunis revealed last month that she "isn't disinterested" in the lead role, but that's the most we've heard about the casting of Anastasia Steele thus far.

The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder is rumored to be a contender for the role of Christian Gray, the wealthy businessman who strikes up a torrid affair with 22-year-old college student Anastasia Steele, who explores her sexuality for the first time. During an appearance on Live with Kelly and Michael, the actor would only say that there are several actors up for the role.

"There are so many young boys up for this role. I can't say anything other than it's a very interesting story."

Kelly Marcel (Saving Mr. Banks) is writing the screenplay adaptation based on the E.L. James novel. No director has been attached yet.
