Yesterday, J.J. Abrams revealed that the Star Wars: Episode VII script is now finished, confirmed that Breaking Bad's Jesse Plemons has auditioned for a role and discussed the numerous other casting rumors that have been swirling around this impending sequel.

Today, we may have the craziest rumor yet, with the unconfirmed news that Dame Judi Dench is being considered to play Mon Mothma in Star Wars: Episode VII.

Caroline Blakiston played Mon Mothma in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. She had only one brief scene that spanned 30 seconds, where she helped coordinate the Rebel Alliance's attack on the Death Star. Genevieve O'Reilly also played the character in 2005's Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, although her speaking scenes were cut from the final theatrical version. She appears in a non-speaking role in the finished movie, but scenes with her dialogue were included on the Blu-ray and DVD releases. Mon Mothma was also used in the animated TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where she was voiced by Kath Soucie.

Here's what the host of the Full of Sith podcast had to say about the rumor, which, obviously, hasn't been confirmed by Disney or LucasFilm.

"Here's a rumor that I have heard from reliable sources. This hasn't hit yet, but I've checked with at least two or three different people behind-the-scenes, who have been dealing with this sort of info. The name I have heard about Star Wars: Episode VII that I hadn't even thought of until I heard this scuttlebutt, is Mon Mothma. Mon Mothma is going to be showing up in Episode VII, according to this rumor. What makes the rumor even crazier, even jucier, and even more enticing for me, should it come true, the name I've heard attached to Mon Mothma possibly showing up in Episode VII is Judi Dench. She is being looked at for Mon Mothma in Episode VII. That's the rumor I have heard. Whether that happens or not, I don't know."

Star Wars: Episode VII is said to take place 20 years after Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. The Mon Mothma character obviously didn't have a huge impact on the film franchise, but her character was fleshed out significantly in several novels and comic books, including Timothy Zahn's 1991's novel Heir to the Empire, which introduced her as the Chief of State of the Rebel Alliance's successor government, the New Republic. Could they be using this novel's story line in Star Wars: Episode VII? It's possible, but we'll have to wait for official confirmation from Disney and LucasFilm.
