/sony-planning-female-superhero-spider-man-spin-off-movie/Earlier today, it was announced that Sony Pictures is planning a female-led superhero movie based within the The Amazing Spider-Man universe for release in 2017. This is all part of the studio's attempt to get their Marvel franchise back on the right track. Now comes word that they are also prepping their previously announced Venom stand-alone adventure for 2017, and that it will be called Venom Carnage.
This is in reference to iconic Marvel character Carnage, a serial killer known as Cletus Kasady who merged with the offspring of the alien symbiote called Venom during a prison breakout. It sounds like Venom and Carnage will either team-up, or go head-to-head in a Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice style fight to the death. No plot details have been released at this time.
While it has not been confirmed that this movie will be released in 2017 alongside a female-centric stand-alone movie featuring either Black Cat, Spider-Woman or Silver Sable (all characters speculated to be the headliner), Deadline confirms that Venom is still in development. Alex Kurtzman and Ed Solomon (Bill & Ted 3) are working together on the screenplay, which Alex Kurtzman will direct.
If this is true, it means that three The Amazing Spider-Man spin-offs will be in theaters before The Amazing Spider-Man 3 arrives in 2018. Sony has confirmed that The Sinister Six, directed by Drew Goddard, will be in theaters November 2016. Is it possible that we'll get our first glimpse at Venom and Carnage then? Maybe...
