As we discovered in our interview with Jason Statham, Statham is one of the busier action stars working in Hollywood today. But is there any chance that we could see the star of Death Race, Crank, and The Transporter wearing the colorful outfits of a major superhero? IESB got to ask him that very question.
"I'd love to play one, yeah," Statham said.
But which one? That's the real question, and one for which Statham had at least a partial answer.
Let me think... It's funny, I took a meeting for Sub-Mariner. I don't know if I'd look right running around in a tight speedo with wings on my ankles but there's so many cool fucking characters. The Incredible Hulk, I've always been a big fan of but Ed Norton's doing that. And rightly so. He's fucking amazing. And he's working with Louis Leterrier, believer it or not who did The Transporter. I'm trying to think of what would be a good comic book character for me to play. You know, there's talk of them redoing The Crow. That was a good movie with Brandon Lee, although that was years ago. So if that one comes my way, bang! You know, there's so many comic book movies out there and most of the time there's only a handful of people who can do them any justice. Hopefully, they'll come my way for one of them.
It could be interesting seeing Statham in a follow-up to Brandon Lee's final performance in The Crow. Perhaps it could even erase the bad memories of the unfortunate sequels spawned by it. (The Crow: City of Angels, The Crow: Salvation and The Crow: Wicked Prayer). Or hopefully someone at one of the studios will see this and think of a new superhero franchise that Statham could star in.
Until we have an announcement about a superhero project for Statham, his fans can look forward to seeing him in Death Race, which opens September 12th, 2008.
