The adult Losers Club cast for IT 2 is finally starting to come together, with two-time Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain entering talks to star in the sequel. If a deal is finalized, she will portray the adult version of Beverly Marsh, who was portrayed by Sophia Lillis in last year's IT, which became the highest-grossing horror movie of all time last fall. With the first member of the adult Loser's Club in place, it will be interesting to see how quickly the rest of the cast comes together as the filmmakers prepare for a summer shoot.

What's interesting about this casting is it was actually predicted a few months ago by Deviant Art user NetoRibeiro89, who put together a series of character posters featuring The Losers Club members as adults, with who the artist thought would be cast as these characters. Sophia Lillis also stated in an interview that she wanted Chastain to portray later years Beverly Marsh. The fan-made posters also included Adam Scott as Eddie Kaspbrak (originally played by Jack Dylan Grazer), Patrick Wilson as Bill Denbrough (originally played by Jaden Lieberher), Chris Pratt as Ben Hanscom (originally played by Jeremy Ray Taylor), Mark Duplass as Richie Tozier (originally played by Finn Wolfhard), Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Stanely Uris (originally played by Wyatt Oleff) and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mike Hanlon (originally played by Chosen Jacobs).

The cast members themselves also picked Christian Bale as Bill, Chris Pratt as Ben, Bill Hader as Richie, Chadwick Boseman as Mike, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Stanley and Griffin Newman as Eddie, while IT director Andy Muschietti mentioned Jessica Chastain as his top choice to play Beverly. Sources claim that it is still very early in the negotiation process, and that the script is still being worked on by Gary Dauberman, who co-wrote the original IT with Chase Palmer and Cary Fukunaga, who at one point was attached to direct both movies. If a deal can be reached with Jessica Chastain though, it will reunite her with director Andy Muschietti, whose feature film debut Mama starred Chastain.

This sequel follows Stephen King's massive 1,138-page novel, which was split into two parts, the first dealing with the young group of friends known as The Losers Club, who fight off an evil supernatural entity known as Pennywise. They reunite as adults a few decades later, fulfilling their promise to return to their hometown of Derry, Maine, if IT should ever surface once again. While this second movie will focus on the adult members of The Losers Club, director Andy Muschietti has stated in the past that he hopes to bring back the original movie's young stars for flashback scenes.

New Line has already handed out a September 6, 2019 release date for IT 2, which currently has no direct competition lined up as of yet. Given the incredible critical and commercial reception for IT, which became the first horror movie ever to cross $300 million domestically, it wouldn't be surprising if most studios steered clear of this sequel, which won't be too difficult considering this early September frame is traditionally quite the low-grossing weekend, at least it was until last year when IT took the box office by storm. Jessica Chastain is coming off a Golden Globe nominated performance in the true story adaptation Molly's Game, and she will next be seen in the highly-anticipated X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Variety broke the news on this casting earlier today.
