Pennywise is coming back to get the kids of Derry this summer. IT 2 is officially set to begin filming in July, as confirmed by producer Roy Lee. IT wound up obliterating expectations on all fronts last year and went on to become the biggest horror movie of all time. So, the studio announced the sequel just two weeks after the release and the creative team has been working to get it done ever since. Now, it looks like things are going smoothe and coming together behind the scenes, as filming is set to begin in just a few of months.

We previously reported that production on IT 2 would possibly be getting underway in June. That was close, and pre-production will certainly be happening by that time, but Roy Lee, who was a producer on the first movie and returns as part of the team for the sequel, recently confirmed to IndieWire that July is when cameras will roll. He also says that the script is still getting finished up, but that location scouting is currently being done in anticipation of the summer shoot. Here's what he had to say about it.

"The script is still being finalized and the locations are currently being scouted in anticipation of shooting then."

Gary Dauberman (Annabelle: Creation) wrote the first IT and has returned to pen the sequel. Luckily, since it was always the plan to adapt Stephen King's beloved horror novel in two different movies, he likely had a head start on the process and isn't being rushed unnecessarily. While Warner Bros. and New Line are very eager to get the sequel moving, the last thing they want to do is put out something that is unsatisfying, given how much people love the first movie.

Director Andy Muschietti is also set to return for IT: Chapter 2. He recently teased that the young actors who make up The Losers Club from the first movie will be back as well. But since this second movie will be focused on the characters as adults, their roles likely won't be nearly as big this time around. Currently, they're in the process of casting the adult version of the Losers. While no final decisions have been made, Jessica Chastain is in talks to play the adult Beverly Marsh. She previously worked with Muschietti on his Guillermo del Toro-produced horror movie Mama.

Last, but certainly not least, Bill Skarsgard will return as Pennywise. Skarsgard's performance was really part of what helped make IT so successful, to the tune of $700 million worldwide, which was more than Justice League made. So having him back is crucial. Warner Bros. has dated IT: Chapter 2 for release on September 6, 2019. With filming getting underway in July, that should give them just enough time to get it done in order to make that release date.
