It's true. George Miller is directing Justice League of America. We've already known this for a month, but Variety made the news official this afternoon when they announced it publicly on their website. Warner Brothers will be producing this super hero extravaganza.

The film is currently in the process of casting its leads, with the hope that it will start shooting before the strike happens. It is being positioned as the Tentpole release of 2009. Though the Superman franchise is important to Warner Brothers, it has taken a backseat to this gargantuan undertaking. This is partly because the studio feels the script by Kieran and Michele Mulroney is a great piece of literature in its own right, trumping the man of steel's latest screenplay.

The film will feature such characters as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Aquaman. At this time, it looks unlikely that Christian Bale or Brandon Routh would reprise their roles as Batman and Superman respectively.

One person close to the project stated, "They're working very hard to get it to happen. But there are so many characters it's complicated."
