Jackass 3D opened to record-breaking grosses last weekend, earning $50 million at the box office. That overwhelming success could now lead to the proposed DVD release Jackass 3.5 hitting theater screens instead of the home market in less than a few months.
The Los Angeles Times reports that a decision from Paramount about what they will do with this extra footage is expected within the next few days. Johnny Knoxville has stated that there was enough footage for two movies. Jackass 3D's $50.4 million opening weekend haul was nearly double that of Jackass Number Two's $29 million opening weekend gross back in 2006.
Steve-O (a.k.a. Steven Glover) told The Los Angeles Times about one of their best bits that didn't make it into the movie. It includes a character dubbed Will the Farter who uses the power of his farts to shoot blowgun darts at a target painted on Steve-O's face. Here's what he had to say below:
"How are you going to leave out the scene where a guy farts darts into another guy's face? You know you're working with some high-quality material if you're leaving something like that out."
We first reported on this additional footage a few weeks ago, when it was thought to be used for Jackass 3.5's DVD release. You can also CLICK HERE to read our exclusive interview with Wee Man a.k.a. Jason Acuña, where he talks a bit more about the extra footage that wasn't used in Jackass 3D.
We'll be sure to keep you posted on a new theatrical follow-up to Jackass 3D as soon as we have more information.
