Actor Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to star in An Enemy for director Denis Villeneuve (Incendies).

Jake Gyllenhaal will play a downtrodden history teacher who discovers a man who looks exactly like him on a rented DVD. The teacher decides to seek out his double, and ends up turning both their lives upside down. Jake Gyllenhaal will portray both roles, which are described as "dark and edgy."

Denis Villeneuve will direct from a screenplay by Javier Gullón, which is adapted from the Jose Saramango novel, The Double. Niv Fichman is producing for Rhombus Media alongside Miguel Angel Faura of Roxbury Pictures.

No production schedule was given, although it was said that Denis Villeneuve will shoot An Enemy before he starts production on Prisoners, which stars Hugh Jackman.
