Spectre, the 24th James Bond adventure, hit theaters last year, but before it even debuted, there were rumors that star Daniel Craig was ready to step away from the franchise. Last month, one of the actor's longtime friends, Mark Strong, revealed that Daniel Craig's time as Bond is done. While it hasn't been confirmed yet, there is plenty of speculation about who will play the iconic spy next. One actor whose name has been bandied about to play Bond is Tom Hiddleston. The actor reveals in an interview with The Sunday Times that he would jump at the opportunity to play this iconic character.

"I simply love the theme tune, the tropes and the mythology. I love the whole thing. If it ever came knocking, it would be an extraordinary opportunity. And I'm very aware of the physicality of the job. I would not take it lightly."

The actor adds that he went to watch Spectre while he was filming Kong: Skull Island in Hawaii. He is also being considered a front runner for the role thanks to The Night Manager, which is currently airing in the U.K. and will debut in the U.S. on AMC next month. The series, adapted from the hit spy novels by John le Carré, has helped his chances, with British bookmakers William Hill increasing his odds of landing the role from 25 to 1 to 10 to 1. Still, the actor is behind a number of other top contenders, according to this bookmaker.

According to several bookmaking outlets, Tom Hardy is the current favorite, followed by Idris Elba, Damian Lewis, Aidan Turner and Henry Cavill. Still, we don't know for sure whether or not Daniel Craig is done as 007, or if director Sam Mendes will be coming back either. Spectre has currently earned $199.8 million at the domestic box office and $879.5 million worldwide, which falls short of Skyfall's $304.3 million domestic take and $1.1 billion worldwide.

Tom Hiddleston will next be seen in the upcoming biopic I Saw the Light, arriving in theaters March 25, and High-Rise, which doesn't have a domestic release date set at this time. He will start production on Thor: Ragnarok in Australia this summer. As of now, we don't know when production will start on the next Bond movie, but we'll keep you posted with any updates. Do you think Tom Hiddleston would make a great James Bond?
