James Gandolfini is in talks to join the cast of Animal Rescue, alongside Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace. No details were given regarding what character he will play, if a deal is finalized.

The plot is based on Dennis Lehane short story that centers on a Boston bartender trying to free himself from his past criminal life. He gets caught up in a heist gone wrong and a murder that all stems from a lost pit bull.

Michael R. Roskam (Bullhead) is directing from a screenplay by author Dennis Lehane, with Cathy Schulman and Celine Rattray producing for Fox Searchlight Pictures. No production schedule was given for the adaptation.

James Gandolfini last starred in Killing Them Softly, Zero Dark Thirty, and Not Fade Away. He will next be seen in the New Line Cinema comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, opening in theaters this weekend.
