Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the longest chapter in the franchise, and James Gunn seems pretty happy about it. Ready to be released in May, the third and last adventures of the cosmic group of underdog superheroes will be the second MCU movie to arrive in theaters this year, to continue to set up the current Phase 5 of the Disney franchise.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the next installment would last 2 hours and 29 minutes, way longer than the past two films. Now, Gunn has addressed the rumors for the runtime of the movie, stating that the estimation was pretty close:

“It’s around that long, although that’s not yet exact. And, I promise, not a second is wasted. There’s no fat. It was necessary to experience the full arc for every major Guardians character, not only for this film, but for the trilogy (or, I should say, trilogy plus).”

The last Guardians of the Galaxy installment had a runtime of 2 hours and 17 minutes, while the first movie only lasted 2 hours and 2 minutes. Movies lasting longer have been a common practice within the MCU since the beginning, with most of the latest films surpassing the 2-hour older standard and many reaching two and a half hours.

Our beloved band of misfits is settling in Knowhere. But it isn't long before their lives are upended by echoes of Rocket's troubled past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around her on a dangerous mission to save Rocket's life, a mission that, if not completed successfully, could lead to the end of the Guardians just as we know them.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will once again star Zoe Saldaña, Vin Diesel, Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, and Pom Klementieff. But, in addition to bringing back the starting team, the film will introduce a long-awaited figure in the Marvel universe: Adam Warlock, played by Will Poulter. This character will be introduced to later take a much more important role in everything that comes in the future in the franchise.

Warlock was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and first appeared in Fantastic Four #66 in 1967. Adam possesses various superhuman powers and characteristics derived from his artificial genetic makeup, such as increased strength and stamina, as well as the ability of his body to transform cosmic energy with different effects and uses.
