When it comes to popular characters in the DCEU, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is one that comes up in quite a few lists, so it is no surprise that fans constantly ask when she will return. In a recent Twitter conversation, James Gunn dropped another hint that he could possibly want to bring the colorful Suicide Squad member back to screens again in on his future projects. While Gunn has been revealing a little about the things he is working on for DC, there is always the possibility for more and that could well include a little of Harley chaos if we are lucky.

Margot Robbie first played Harley Quinn in 2016’s Suicide Squad, bringing the character to life if a way that instantly made her a hit with fans and certainly boosted Robbie’s already soaring career. Since then, the Australian actress has played the character twice more, in Birds of Prey and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. With a huge fan base, social media frequently sees new calls for more Harley Quinn in the world of the DCEU, and director Gunn has responded to one of them in his usual cryptic but optimistic way.

Gunn’s response was to a post that shared an image of the pair hugging which said, “Please bring Harley back for another project!” Gunn replied to the post with an image of Robbie as Quinn in The Suicide Squad and a comment that simply read, “Not a bad idea.”

Are Margot Robbie and James Gunn Reuniting for a New Harley Quinn Project?

Last summer, James Gunn teased the possibility of a Harley Quinn project being something her would “definitely” want to do. While this before the success of The Suicide Squad, which opened the month after Gunn’s comments, it was the second time Gunn had made remarks about working with Margot Robbie on another project after The Suicide Squad. The director previously said that a discussion had taken place, but exactly how detailed those talks were and where they ended is still unknown.

Currently, Gunn is working on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 movie for Marvel Studios, and sometime after that there is a second season of Peacemaker coming, an Amanda Waller series, and Gunn still seems to have at least one other show in development for Warner Bros. For now, it seems that Gunn is quite happy to continue working in the TV arm of the DCEU, and previously hinted that he can see himself doing it for at least the next year.

Meanwhile, Margot Robbie is currently busy filming her curious and secretive turn as Barbie in the new movie based on the famous doll. Starring alongside the likes of Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu and Will Ferrell, there is very little known about exactly what the movie is going to look like when it comes out, but there are seems very little chance of it being like any other Barbie properties that has been made in the past. Whether after that Robbie could be tempted back into the world of Harley Quinn is something we will just have to wait to find out.
