Along with many other people, iconic author Stephen King was given the chance to see an advanced screening of this summer’s DCEU release of The Flash and, as you do, he wanted to share his thoughts about it on social media. What happens when a much-loved author gives their honest opinion on a big upcoming movie? The much-loved writer/director who will soon be heading up the entire DCU future and loves nothing more than spending almost as much time on Twitter as the platform’s logo has to respond.
James Gunn was drawn into giving a very simple and celebratory reply to the critique offered by King when tagged in the post by a fan. As a writer of many stories that deal with multiple realities, such as The Dark Tower and The Talisman, King knows a thing or two about multiverses. Even though he clearly doesn’t hold much love for the superhero genre, which is probably why he has never dipped his toe in the arena, King seems to have been converted by Ezra Miller’s first solo movie as Barry Allen. King wrote:
“I got an advanced screening of THE FLASH today. As a rule I don’t care a lot for superhero movies, but this one is special. It’s heartfelt, funny, and eye-popping. I loved it.”
When asked if King's words were true, Gunn responded with a very short and happy reply that simply read:
“Hell yes it is.”
It is certainly not only King who is hailing The Flash as potentially the greatest superhero movie of all time, and soon audiences will get to make up their own mind about where The Flash sits in the pantheon of outstanding comic book movies. For now though, it seems that despite the issues faced by the movie and its lead star, things are looking good for The Flash in a summer packed with blockbusters.
The Flash Is One of the Most Anticipated Movies of the Summer
It is hard not to hype up a movie that features the return of Michael Keaton’s Batman, Michael Shannon reprising his role as Man of Steel’s General Zod, the DC multiverse and one of the biggest stories to hit the DCEU. With all of that, there is a huge amount of expectation on the movie, the kind of which usually leads to an equally huge amount of disappointment. This time, however, things seem to all be going exactly as planned, with first reviews delivering a positive air about the film and trailer footage delivering just enough of a tantalizing look at the movie to have audiences eagerly waiting its June 16 release.
Whether this will be the last time we see Ezra Miller as Barry Allen is yet to be decided, but if it is their last appearance in the DC franchise, it appears to be one of the best swansongs a superhero has been given in many years. After the disappointment of recent DC offerings, this is perhaps just the positive note needed to prepare the way for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s vision for the DCU.
