The DCU has been one of the most frustrating franchises to follow in the last decade than any other. From the inception of the Snyderverse to the false promises of Black Adam, the inconsistencies and misfires have seen the DC Universe floundering in the wake of its Marvel Studios counterpart. Now James Gunn and Peter Safran are heading into the biggest shake-up of the DC franchise to date, and it seems that one person who supports the new look DCU is Snyderverse mastermind, Zack Snyder.James Gunn has continued to share his thoughts on a regular basis via his Twitter account, and in a recent post, Gunn revealed that he and Snyder have spoken since the announcement about the first phase of DC movies and TV shows coming in the next few years. Gunn originally mentioned that he and Snyder had been in contact while addressing the hashtag urging Netflix to buy the Snyderverse from Warner Bros. Discovery. In response to that, Gunn said:

“I have to say, this has got to be the wackiest hashtag ever since 1) Netflix hasn’t expressed any such interest (although we’ve discussed other stuff) & 2) Zack hasn’t expressed any interest & seems to be happy doing what he’s doing (and, yes, we too have talked).”

When asked what the pair discussed, Gunn was happy to respond, adding:

“He contacted me to express his support about my choices. He’s a great guy. Again, he seems really happy with the massive world building he’s doing now.”

Fans Will Still Not Let Go Of the Snyderverse

When Warner Bros. agreed to let Zack Snyder return to the DC franchise and complete his four-hour cut of Justice League, it reignited hope among fans of the director’s DC work that their dreams of more movies from Snyder could be on the cards. However, since the release of the Snyder Cut of Justice League in 2021, it has been made clear time and time again that there will be no more Snyderverse from this point on, but telling that to fans seems to be an impossible task.

Having seen #ReleaseTheSnyderCut achieve its goal, fans have since trended #RestoreTheSnyderVerse and now #SellSnyderVersetoNetflix, with the aim of getting Netflix to buy the entire Snyderverse from Warner Bros. and have Snyder return to complete the story. Unfortunately, even without James Gunn’s comments that Snyder is now busy establishing his own worlds at Netflix, it is pretty obvious that the Snyderverse is dead, and there is no chance that there will be any deals cut to revive it away from Warner Bros. or DC Studios.

By the time the new DCU begins rolling out its offerings in 2025, people will have had a lot of time to come to terms with Gunn and Safran’s DCU being the only interconnected DC universe moving forward. Whether what Gunn offers can really silence the Snyderverse fans for good is something that is currently a seemingly insurmountable challenge.
