20th Century Fox has chosen James McAvoy to play Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein in the studio's remake Frankenstein, with negotiations currently under way. The actor reportedly beat out Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) and Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans) for the role.

We reported back in February that Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is portraying Dr. Frankenstein's assistant Igor. The story is said to be a revisionist take on Mary Shelley's original novel, addressing themes such as friendship and redemption, along with a sci-fi twist.

Paul McGuigan (Push) is directing from a screenplay by Max Landis (Chronicle), with John Davis producing through his Davis Entertainment banner. No production schedule was released.

James McAvoy is coming off roles in Welcome to the Punch and Trance earlier this year, and he will next be seen in Filth and the superhero sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past, which is currently shooting in Montreal.
