Director Rod Lurie is taking on the challenge of remaking Straw Dogs, one of Sam Peckinpah's most notorious thrillers. Lurie has made a casting update via his Facebook page, stating that both James Woods and Dominic Purcell have joined the cast.

The director revealed the two new cast members by stating, "Beginning stunt rehearsals today with James Woods and Dominic Purcell." He did not indicate exactly what types of stunts the two would be doing in the film. The new Straw Dogs follows Los Angeles screenwriter David Sumner (James Marsden), who moves with his wife (Kate Bosworth) to her hometown in the Deep South. Once there, tensions build in their marriage and old conflicts re-emerge with the locals, leading to a violent confrontation.

The original, which was co-written and directed by Sam Peckinpah, saw Dustin Hoffman in the role of Sumner, with the story set in rural England. Both films are based on the book "The Siege at Trencher's Farm" by Gordon Williams. Rod Lurie's take on the classic tale heads into theaters on February 25th, 2011.
