The Amazing Spider-Man 2 star Jamie Foxx is in early discussions to portray Daddy Warbucks in the Sony Pictures musical remake Annie. Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhané Wallis was confirmed to star as the title character back in February.

Jamie Foxx will play a different version of Daddy Warbucks named Benjamin Stacks, who takes in the young orphan Annie in this modern-day musical. The project is based on Thomas Meehan's Broadway stage play. It isn't known when production will begin on this musical.

Will Gluck is directing from a screenplay he is currently rewriting, based on an original draft by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna. Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, and James Lassiter are producing through their Overbrook Entertainment company, with Jay-Z, Tyran Smith, and Jay Brown producing for Marcy Media.

Before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings into theaters next summer, Jamie Foxx can be seen in the action-thriller White House Down, opening June 28.
