After languishing in development for several years, the Untitled Janis Joplin Biopic starring Amy Adams is finally moving forward, with filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club) now set to direct.

Amy Adams has been attached to star as Janis Joplin for several years, with Fernando Meirelles (City Of God) expressing interest to direct back in 2010, and Lee Daniels entering talks to direct back in 2012.

No details have been given regarding the story, which was written by Ron Terry and Teresa Terry. It isn't known if the biopic will cover her entire life, or a certain period during her career. The singer died in 1970 at the age of 27 from a heroin overdose.

Ron Terry is also producing alongside Nathan Ross, with production scheduled to begin in mid-2015.

Jean-Marc Vallée's directing credits include The Young Victoria, Dallas Buyers Club and Wild starring Reese Witherspoon, which opens in theaters next month. He also recently wrapped production on Demolition starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
