/universal-eyes-dwayne-johnson-for-bourne-creators-the-janson-directive/Back in July, Dwayne Johnson was in early talks to take the lead in an adaptation of Robert Ludlum's novel The Janson Directive. The actor has now confirmed his role as Paul Janson, announcing that Academy-award winning writer Akiva Goldsman will pen the screenplay.

Dwayne Johnson will star as a former Navy SEAL and spy for the government agency Consular Operations, who leaves the agency after a number of sanctioned serial killings. He becomes a private security consultant, teaming up with a sharpshooter, striving to help only those who are in need, although he must uncover a vast conspiracy when he is targeted for assassination.

It is believed that Universal wants to set this up as a Jason Bourne-esque franchise Dwayne Johnson. Author Robert Ludlum also created the Bourne character in his books The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, which were adapted into a hit movie trilogy starring Matt Damon.

Dwayne Johnson will next be seen in the 3D disaster movie San Andreas, followed by the sequel Fast & Furious 7. He is also prepping to return as Roadblock in G.I. Joe 3, and recently announced that he will be starring as villain-turned-good guy Black Adam in DC and New Line's superhero epic Shazam!. It is not known if this anticipated DC Comics adventure will be shot before or after The Janson Directive.

Akiva Goldsman is the Oscar-winning writer behind A Beautiful Mind and I Am Legend. He directed his second feature Winter's Tale, which opened in theaters this past February.
