Why is Jar Jar Binks trending on social media? That's the question many Star Wars fans are asking themselves after the long holiday weekend. For starters, Ahmed Best, the actor who portrayed the character on the big screen, is alive and well, which is definitely good news. The Rise of Skywalker is on the way and though we can't say for certain, he more than likely will not be returning along with Emperor Palpatine in the final Skywalker saga installment.

After poking around, a tweet from Luke Skywalker star Mark Hamill shows up and is probably the main culprit. As of this writing, the tweet in question has over 13,000 likes and has been retweeted over 1,500 times. However, the tweet does not specifically say anything about Jar Jar Binks. Instead, it's an image that shows what Star Wars fate they would have from the month they were born and the first letter of their name. The letter "J" has to do with Jar Jar Binks, which might be why he is trending right now.

Other answers as to why the Phantom Menace star is trending on social media may have something to do with ESPN writer Ryan McGee's tweet about the whole situation. McGee says, "Jar Jar Binks trending because people are asking 'Why is Jar Jar Binks trending?' is the most Jar Jar Binks thing ever." While the tweet didn't start the fire, it certainly has added fuel to it with nearly 6,000 likes and close to 1,500 retweets.

In 2018, Ahmed Best revealed that the intense Jar Jar Binks backlash had him considering suicide. After coming out with his feelings publicly, the star received an overwhelming amount of support from the Star Wars community and we have seen the character in a better light ever since. However, he is still far from the most-loved character in the franchise and many fans are still unable to forgive George Lucas for introducing the character in the first place. But, for some, Jar Jar has become a favorite for those who like to go against the grain of the traditional Star Wars fandom.

The Rise of Skywalker is in the post-production phase and J.J. Abrams is getting ready to put an end to the sequel trilogy. There isn't any room for Jar Jar Binks and any of his shenanigans. Plus, he returned to Naboo and became a street clown, so he probably doesn't have a lot of time to be getting involved with the First Order at this point in time. Thankfully, he is alive and well and so is Ahmed Best. Just have some fun with the fact that Jar Jar is trending on social media.
