Jared Padalecki (Supernatural) has signed on to star in the remake of Friday the 13th. Marcus Nispel is directing.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount unleashed the original Friday The 13th in 1980, introducing the hockey-masked, horror icon Jason. The remake will focus on the masked serial killer, with Padalecki playing the lead, who investigates what happened up at Crystal Lake.

Padalecki next appears as Thomas Kinkade alongside Peter O'Toole and Marcia Gay Harden in Lionsgate's Home for the Holidays, slated for a December release and based on the life of the artist.

Friday the 13th will be released none other than Friday, Feb. 13, 2009.
