The Laurie Strode vs. Michael Myers saga will come to its conclusion with the upcoming sequel Halloween Ends, and producer Jason Blum promises a satisfying ending to the story. In 2018, Blum's Blumhouse partnered up with Universal Pictures to reboot Halloween with a new sequel bringing back Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode. Only acknowledging the original movie in the series, the reboot picked up decades later with Michael Myers escaping from custody to embark on another Halloween night killing spree.
Planned as a trilogy, fans were treated to the second installment, Halloween Kills, in 2021. The ultra-violent sequel upped the ante in terms of Michael's kill count, putting a divide with genre fans that either loved or hated this new direction for the masked killer, who's usually a bit more methodical and restrained. It ended with a cliffhanger teasing a final showdown between Laurie and Michael in the third and final chapter.
Despite the mixed reviews of Halloween Kills, Blum feels fans will be happy with Halloween Ends. In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Blum confirmed that he has seen the latest cut of Halloween Ends, which is pretty much complete aside from some minor fixes. The producer also teased that it's "very good" and he's excited to get this movie out into theaters this fall.
"I did. I saw it about two weeks ago. It's very good. I'm very excited. We have a few little things to fix on it and finish, but I'm very excited for our last Halloween movie."
Halloween Ends Will Be the Last Blumhouse Halloween Movie
Jason Blum also confirmed that Halloween Ends is the final movie that will be made at Blumhouse. This doesn't mean the franchise will end but that Blumhouse loses the rights to the series after Halloween Ends is released. It's always possible that a new deal could be reached in the future, but for now, this movie is being planned as Blumhouse's final chapter in the Halloween franchise, and Blum feels that fans will be happy with the result.
"I didn't say it's gonna be the last Halloween movie. It's our last Halloween movie. We have no more rights to make any more Halloween, so it goes back to Malek [Akkad]. And what he does, only he knows, but we are done. And this is our last one and I think people will be very happy."
Blum produced Halloween Ends with Malek Akkad and Bill Block. The sequel is directed by David Gordon Green and written by Green, Paul Brad Logan, Chris Bernier, and Danny McBride. Jamie Lee Curtis and James Jude Courtney are back as Laurie Strode and Michael Myers, respectively, with other cast members including Andi Matichak, Will Patton, Kyle Richards, and Omar Dorsey.
Halloween Ends will premiere in theaters on Oct. 14, 2022. Even if this turns out to be the final Halloween film at Blumhouse, we can be certain the franchise will go on, as evil never dies.
