The Bourne franchise has taken some turns over the years, more recently with Jeremy Renner taking over the lead and starring in The Bourne Legacy. This summer we'll finally see actor Matt Damon take back the lead with the highly anticipated, Jason Bourne. Matt Damon returns to his most iconic role in Jason Bourne with director Paul Greengrass, the director of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, which finds the CIA's most lethal former operative drawn out of the shadows in the next chapter of Universal Pictures' Bourne franchise. New footage has been unleashed today as the second trailer for the movie has arrived.

It's been 9 years since we last saw Jason Bourne in 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum. In the years between, Matt Damon had often said they hadn't found a story that was worth returning to the franchise for. While we still don't have too many plot details, Matt Damon actually co-wrote the script with Paul Greengrass and Christopher Rouse (Captain Phillips, Green Zone). Damon himself revealed last year that the story is set in the post-Snowden world, referencing former NSA analyst Edward Snowden, who leaked thousands of classified documents that exposed how the government was spying on the American public. The movie will be exploring the nature of spy agencies and civil liberties.

For Jason Bourne, Damon is joined by Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel and Tommy Lee Jones, while Julia Stiles reprises her role in the series. Frank Marshall again produces alongside Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate Entertainment, and Greengrass, Damon, Gregory Goodman and Ben Smith also produce. Based on characters created by Robert Ludlum, the film is written by Greengrass and Christopher Rouse.
