The story centers on Tom Hardy's character, a Soviet military police officer who investigates a string of brutal child murders in the 1950s, only to discover that he himself has become a target of his own government. Jason Clarke is playing a man named Brodsky, who is accused of being a traitor by the MP. Noomi Rapace also stars as Tom Hardy's wife, with Joel Kinnaman playing the military cop's murderous co-worker. Paddy Considine, Gary Oldman, and Philip Seymour Hoffman also star in unspecified roles.
Richard Price wrote the screenplay, which was adapted from Tom Rob Smith's novel. Ridley Scott and Michael Schaefer are producing through their Scott Free Productions banner, with Worldview Entertainment co-financing and executive producing with Summit Entertainment. Production is currently under way.
