HBO has turned to director Jay Roach for their film about the 2000 presidential election. According to Variety, Roach will be replacing Sydney Pollack as the director on the project.

The drama will revolve around the election recount that happened in Florida and ended with the Supreme Court naming George W. Bush as president of the United States five weeks later. HBO plans to chronicle the life of an average American during this time period.

The film is currently looking to cast a number of people, from activists and strategists to key politicians. The film is scheduled to air next year, right in the middle of the 2008 presidential campaign.
