Actor Jeff Conaway, who starred in the hit musical Grease and the popular sitcom Taxi, passed away earlier today at the age of 60, from complications due to pneumonia.

Jeff Conaway was admitted to the Encino Hospital Medical Center on May 10, where he was unconscious and suffering from pneumonia. He was placed into a medically-induced coma because he had ingested, "just too many prescribed drugs." The actor's sister, Carla Shreve, said he was taken off life support today.

Jeff Conaway appeared in the Broadway version of Grease before it was adapted into the 1978 movie, which he also starred in as Kenickie, the best friend of John Travolta's Danny Zuko. That same year, Jeff Conaway joined the TV series Taxi as Bobby Wheeler, which he appeared on for four seasons before leaving the show in 1982. He continued to work steadily throughout the 1980s and 1990s, before landing a role on the sci-fi series Babylon 5 as Zack Allen.

Most recently Jeff Conaway appeared in the 2008 premiere season of the VH1 reality series Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew to combat his substance abuse issues.

Jeff Conaway is survived by his wife, Kerri Young Conaway, sisters Carla Shreve and Michelle Goffin, and stepson Emerson Hall.
