Veteran comedian Jeff Foxworthy is back on stage for his first solo comedy special in almost a quarter of a century. Heading to Netflix this month, Jeff Foxworthy: The Good Old Days puts the famous Blue Collar Comedy Tour legend on the small screen for what's touted as his first solo comedy special in 24 years. An official trailer has been released showcasing some of the material Foxworthy has in store for fans, and you can watch the video below ahead of the special's premiere on March 22.
The logline for Jeff Foxworthy: The Good Old Days reads: "In his first solo stand-up special in 24 years, Jeff Foxworthy is remembering the good old days. Before cell phones diagnosed our illnesses, were used as cameras, kept us informed 24 hours a day, and before we had to have different passwords for everything. Jeff discusses parenting (your children and your parents), texting, the joy of getting a butt dial, conversations with his wife and recalls a much simpler time (or was it?)."
The special is produced by Larry Burns and John Irwin, and directed by Ryan Polito. It was filmed at the Pantages Theatre in Minneapolis.
Jeff Foxworthy is Still Doing Work on the Big and Small Screens
Famous for his comedy work for decades, Jeff Foxworthy is especially well known for being a member of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour with Larry the Cable Guy, Bill Engvall, and Ron White. He has become synonymous with "You might be a redneck" one-liners, releasing several book based on this theme in addition to consistently joking about it on stage. Foxworthy has released six comedy albums, with two of those certified platinum three times.
Foxworthy also starred in his own sitcom, The Jeff Foxworthy Show, in the 1990s. The comedian also served as the host of the quiz show Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? and also served as the host of GSN's The American Bible Challenge. In 2005, Foxworthy was the subject of a roast on Comedy Central. The actor has also lent his voice to animated films like The Smurfs 1 & 2, Ozzy, and Bunyan and Babe, also appearing on TV shows in recent years like Jay Leno's Garage, Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, and What's It Worth?.
"Well, now I’m doing something I’ve never done," Foxworthy said of how he crafts jokes these days, per Revue. "I’m writing a new hour all at one time. I used to do it in increments of 10 minutes or 15 minutes. Now, I just sat there with an hour. I had ideas for about two or three different things and I wrote everything I could think about, based on those things — then I would go try them."
He added, "So, that’s like dumping a load of clay on the table and then cutting away the parts that didn’t work opposed to building it up slowly. They both get you to the same place, and even other comics are going, 'Are you out of your mind?! Nobody does a new hour at a time!' But it worked out that way. I wanted to see if I could do it. I’ll probably do a new special out of it."
