There's a spot for Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the cast of The Boys, but having too many zombies to kill in another franchise seems to be the biggest roadblock in the path of the Supernatural reunion. Previously, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke created Supernatural, and he's already brought back one of that show's stars in a big way for the upcoming season 3. With Jensen Ackles on board to appear as Soldier Boy, could Morgan, who played Ackles' father on Supernatural, be close behind?

Unfortunately, it does not appear that Morgan will be popping up on The Boys anytime soon. Back in 2020, Kripke had offered Morgan a role in the superhero satire series after The Walking Dead star had shown interest. At the time, the scheduling just didn't work out as Morgan would have been too busy filming the eleventh and final season of The Walking Dead. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kripke provided a new update on his quest for Morgan, and this time, it appears to be off the table once again with the actor planning to shoot the Walking Dead spinoff series Isle of the Dead with Lauren Cohan.

"The question has been asked. Sad for me, happy for him: He's currently the lead, along with Lauren Cohan, on the Walking Dead spin-off. So, schedule-wise, I don't know. We might still remain star-crossed, unfortunately, because I did ask. We had a role come up, and my first question was, 'Well, is Jeffrey available?'"

Fans are anticipating the return of The Boys next month. While Jeffrey Dean Morgan isn't involved, there is a lot of fan excitement about the inclusion of his Supernatural co-star, Jensen Ackles. For his part, Ackles will be playing Soldier Boy, a superhero from the past who led a team of Supes known as Payback in the years before The Seven had been established. While Ackles was a beloved fan favorite on Supernatural, Kripke previously teased that the character will not be a hero, as he's perhaps not much better than Homelander (Antony Starr).

"I think anyone expecting Jensen to show up and be a good guy, they will be disappointed," Kripke said. "In the comics he's mostly just kind of bumbling and subservient to Homelander, I would say. As we're writing him in this, we're getting to really talk about the history of Vought because he's like John Wayne: He's one of these guys that's been around for decades of Vought history. And he was Homelander before Homelander, so he's from a different era, but he's got the ego and the ambition - it just comes across in a different way because he's from a different time."

The Boys will return when season 3 premieres on June 3, 2022, on Prime Video. You can find the first two seasons now streaming along with the animated spinoff series, The Boys Presents: Diabolical.
