Jena Malone has signed on to star in the indie thriller Angelica for Pierpoline Films and director Mitchell Lichtenstein (Teeth).

The actress will portray Constance, a young girl who falls in love with and marries a well-off doctor. After complications in the birth of their daughter Angelica, the couple are forced to be celibate, which puts even more strain on the relationship. The family is tormented even more when a supernatural presence enters their home.

The story will be adapted from the 2007 Arthur Phillips book of the same name, which is told through multiple perspectives. It isn't known if Mitchell Lichtenstein is writing the screenplay or if another writer will handle the adaptation. Joyce M. Pierpoline is producing through her Pierpoline Films banner.

Jena Malone was recently seen in the History Channel mini-series Hatfields & McCoys. She will next appear in the highly-anticipated sequel The Hunger Games: Catching Fire this fall.
