Body swap comedies have been repeated many times over the last forty years, and a newly pitched addition to the genre starring Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston has been picked up by Amazon Studios after a tightly fought auction between streamers. As per Deadline, The untitled movie will be written and directed by Max Barbakow and comes from Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment production company, with Robbie producing along with Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, as well as the two stars and the director also claiming producer credits.

One of the best-known body-swap comedies is Freaky Friday, which saw a mother and daughter having their minds swapped. Other takes on the idea have included other adults having their personalities transplanted into those of their children or other adolescents. Having Roberts and Aniston as the leads suggest a different type of movie, with two adults finding themselves in each other’s body and leaning more towards The Change-Up, which saw Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds having their bodies swapped with hilarious results.

There are currently no specific details available about the exact circumstances of the story that will see Aniston and Roberts swapping bodies. Still, there will likely be plenty of mishaps, mix-ups, and misunderstandings as they attempt to bring something new to the genre while probably sticking relatively close to what has worked well in the past.

Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston Can Continue Their Recent Comedy Success

Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston have recently delivered comedy performances that give their new joint venture a strong chance of success. Roberts teamed up with George Clooney in 2022 for Ticket to Paradise, a romantic comedy about a divorced couple attempting to sabotage their daughter's wedding. Although the movie gained some mixed critic reviews, it turned its $60 million budget into a $172.5 million box office hit, which in the post-pandemic era was huge for that kind of movie.

Jennifer Aniston will soon be seen once again joining Adam Sandler in the Netflix movie Murder Mystery 2. Following 2019’s Murder Mystery, the sequel is set to be released at the end of March and will see Aniston and Sandler once again caught up in the middle of a murder case that only they can help solve. Like Roberts’ Ticket to Paradise, Murder Mystery didn’t get the greatest ratings from critics but pulled in a huge audience for Netflix.

Although the Roberts-Aniston collaboration has found a home at Amazon Studios, fans shouldn’t be expecting the film to move ahead too quickly. Having only been pitched in the last week, there will be a lot of pre-production to be completed before filming can begin, so we are not likely to see the movie hit Prime Video until late 2024 or early 2025. However, that gives the team plenty of time to plan how they will hype up the film and make it another hit for the two veteran stars.
