Friends star Jennifer Aniston is returning to television after 14 years with Reese Witherspoon for Apple's first scripted series. Apple is swinging for the fences while getting its original programming off of the ground. First, it was announced that they were partnering up with Steven Spielberg for an anthology series and now they have just announced that their reuniting Witherspoon and Aniston, which is huge news for the world of television. The project will be the first scripted show for the tech giant and Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon will co-own, executive produce, as well as star in the project.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Apple had picked up an untitled drama based on Brian Stelter's novel Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV. A two-season order has been placed, with 20 episodes expected to be filmed. The series will be written and executive produced by House of Cards supervising producer and political consultant Jay Carson. It is not clear how much the show will cost Apple, as it was reportedly in a bidding war with other companies including Showtime for the project. Also unclear is when and how it will debut, but it is sure to be a huge deal when it does.

Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon played sisters on the wildly successful hit sitcom Friends and the new show will see them reuniting for the first time in 14 years. The series was described by Apple as, "an inside look at the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning, exploring the unique challenges faced by the women (and men) who carry out this daily televised ritual." Brian Stelter's novel told the story of the rivalry between NBC's Today Show and ABC's Good Morning America.

It's exciting for Friends fans to see Jennifer Aniston back on the small screen and to see Reese Witherspoon stick to TV after having so much success with the Emmy-nominated Big Little Lies. There have been rumors surrounding a second season of Big Little Lies, which has led to the division of fans of the show. Initially, the show was ordered to be a one and done type of situation, but the popularity has exceeded all expectations and all of the women on the show have said that they would like to come back. Clearly, Apple has some crazy talent to start their original programming with a bang.

Apple is reportedly dropping $1 billion dollars into launching their original content to be a contender with HBO, Showtime, Netflix, Hulu, and others. Last year, the tech giant stuck their toes in the original content water with some unscripted shows like Planet of the Apps and Carpool Karaoke, but the response hasn't been exactly what Apple had hoped for. Throwing $1 billion dollars down is one way to go about starting off with a head start, but we'll have to see if the shows are worth that investment when they are released.
