According to Variety, Jennifer Connelly has joined the long-gestating Todd Louiso adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth.

The picture, scheduled to shoot at the end of the year, will also star Philip Seymour Hoffman, who starred in Louiso's feature directing debut, Love Liza. Gotham-based Antidote Films is producing the pic, with London outfit Renaissance Films handling worldwide sales.

Mary Jane Skalski (The Station Agent) will produce with Antidote's Jeffrey Levy-Hinte. Angus Finney of Renaissance is exec producer.

"Renaissance immediately understood that this was going to be a different sort of Shakespeare, and it made them perfect partners for us," Skalski commented.
