Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone) has joined the cast of Oliver Stone's latest project, Savages.

Shane Salerno adapted the screenplay from the Don Winslow novel of the same name. The story centers on pot growers and best friends, Ben and Chon, who share the same girlfriend, O (Jennifer Lawrence). Chon is an ex-Navy Seal who returned from Afghanistan with a substantial amount of high-quality weed and Ben, a botanist, grows the pot from their Laguna Beach home. They live a quiet yet prosperous life until a Mexican cartel tries to muscle them out of the drug game and kidnaps O, asking for every penny they've made from their grow operation. Ben and Chon devise an intricate plan to get their girlfriend back.

Oliver Stone is also reaching out to Benicio Del Toro to play the Mexican cartel muscle. The director has met with top-flight talent to play Ben and Chon, such as Leonardo DiCaprio, James Franco, Tom Hardy, Garrett Hedlund, and Aaron Johnson.

Production will start on Savages this June.
