Academy Award winning actress Jennifer Lawrence has revealed that she dropped out of middle school at the age of 14 and does not have a high school diploma. The 27-year old star of Red Sparrow says that she dropped out of school to concentrate on her acting career and says that she is "self-educated." The gamble obviously paid off for Lawrence since she is one of the biggest actresses in Hollywood and she's not even 30 years old. She came to notoriety at the age of 20 with an Oscar nomination and then won two years later at the age of 22.

In a new 60 Minutes interview, Jennifer Lawrence details why she dropped out of middle school at the age of 14. Lawrence says that she never felt "very smart" in school and began modeling at an early age. The actress says she began to read scripts and related to the characters that she was reading for, which was a sign for her. She explains.

"I know exactly what it would look like if somebody felt that way. That was a whole part of my brain that I didn't even know existed. And I didn't want to let it go."

After Jennifer Lawrence had her epiphany reading scripts, she dropped out of middle school and says that she does not have a GED or high school diploma. When asked if she regretted the decision, she said no and went onto talk about her singular vision. That vision even included shying away from hanging out with friends. She had this to say.

"I dropped out of middle school. I don't technically have a GED or a diploma. I am self-educated. No. I really don't. I wanted to forge my own path. I found what I wanted to do and I didn't want anything getting in the way of it," she says. "Even friends, for many years, were not as important to me as my career."

Jennifer Lawrence's career is in full swing, so it's not likely that she would regret her decisions. She stars in the upcoming Red Sparrow, which opens on March 2nd and features her as a Russian ballerina who turns into a spy. According to Lawrence, there was only one thing standing in her way on taking the part, which was the nudity. Lawrence had nude pictures of herself leak on to the internet back in 2014 and it made her question taking on the role in Red Sparrow. In the end, she chose to take on the role to empower herself and take back what someone stole from her.

It's not uncommon for celebrities or musicians to drop out of school at a young age to fulfill their dreams. While many attend school on the set with a private tutor, Jennifer Lawrence declined all of that and is now one of the biggest actresses on the planet and claims to be "self-educated," which is easy to believe by looking at the roles that she's taken and how she's chosen to educate herself. However, that hasn't stopped the public for shaming her for dropping out of middle school at the age of 14. Some believe that she's setting a bad example for her young fans. Regardless of how you feel, Jennifer Lawrence isn't going away any time soon and you can check out a portion of the interview from CBS.
