As an actor, It is one thing to know who you beat to get a role, but another to reveal who those other big name stars were. Jensen Ackles was recently told by The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke exactly who else was in the running to play Soldier Boy in the third season of the show, but he won’t be telling anyone their names.

The Boys returned to Amazon Prime this year with a sensational new season, featuring many returning favorites and some brand new characters. Among the newcomer was the long awaited arrival of Soldier Boy, and being played by Jensen Ackles this brought about a Supernatural reunion with Kripke, who also worked on that show for a number of its early seasons. Thanks to that bond, it seems that Kripke was more than happy to share with the actor who could have taken on the role of Soldier Boy if it hadn’t gone to him. However, Ackles has a reason why he won’t disclose who those people were. He told Men’s Health:

"Usually you're going through casting directors and network studio execs, and all that stuff. But I had a direct line to the showrunner [Eric Kripke]. I do know that there were some names that I think the network was considering. There was a short list of names. And when [Kripke] read off a few of those names to me, I was like, 'Oh, well, there's no way. I don't have a shot at this.' Oh, no [I can't tell you who]. Those are movie stars. I'd get us both blacklisted. If we ever meet in private, I'll whisper in your ear."

Even before season 3 of The Boys aired, it was apparent that wheels were already in motion for the next season, and it was so far along that is looks like the new episodes will be filming this summer. While it has not been revealed which new additions will be joining the Supes this time around, we can expect to see the likes of Karl Urban, Antony Starr and Jensen Ackles all back to reprise their roles.

In addition to this, The Boys’ first live-action spin-off, Gen V, will be arriving on screens sometime early next year, but a recent teaser revealed the main cast which includes Jaz Sinclair, Lizzie Broadway, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Sean Patrick Thomas. In addition, a synopsis revealed for the series reads:

“Gen V is set at America’s only college exclusively for superheroes, run by Vought International. Gen V is an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. It’s part college show, part Hunger Games — with all the heart, satire, and raunch of The Boys.”
