Jeremy Renner, the actor best known for playing Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has just released a song. Yes, a song. Does that mean he's looking to hang up his bow and arrow in favor of a career in pop music? We have absolutely no idea. But this isn't the first time he's dabbled in the music world. Maybe he just needed something to do after the release of Avengers: Endgame? And maybe that something was recording and releasing a version of Heaven Don't Have a Name, as originally released by Sam Feldt?

The song itself sounds like a big, glossy top 40 pop song. Jeremy Renner, rather amazingly, wears the whole thing pretty well. It sounds like something that could legitimately get some airplay, even if Renner wasn't a star of one of the biggest franchises on the planet. That certainly doesn't hurt anything, but still, this song does hold a bit of merit on its own, whether or not this is the sort of thing one might personally listen to. It works as a pop song.

Jeremy Renner actually teed up the song's release on Twitter, releasing a brief video of him recording vocals with a caption that simply read, "Coming soon." With no context, it was hard to know what that meant at the time. But we know now. Here's where things get a lot more interesting. Renner was actually featured on the original version of Heaven Don't Have a Name, which was originally released last year. The Oscar-nominated actor also previously released a cover of House of the Rising Sun by The Animals. Additionally, Renner contributed a version of Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm, as made famous by the Crash Test Dummies, to the soundtrack for last year's comedy Tag, which he also starred in.

Actors making themselves into famous musicians, or at least attempting to do so, is nothing new. There was Eddie Murphy with Party All the Time, Johnny Depp, who plays in the supergroup the Hollywood Vampires, and Bruce Willis with his song Respect Yourself, which appeared on his 1987 debut album, The Return of Bruno. Others have made a successful go of it, such as Steve Martin, who is a very accomplished banjo player, and Idris Elba, who is actually doing pretty well as a DJ, having played a set at Coachella earlier this year. Almost the entire cast of Stranger Things is in some kind of band or musical project right now. Keanu Reeves is in Dogstar. And it's pretty much all Billy Bob Thornton does right now. Keifer Sutherland and Dennis Quaid have both become country western singers. And then we have Jared Leto and his band 30 Seconds to Mars. The list literally goes on.

It's worth noting that the only projects Jeremy Renner is officially signed on for are the Hawkeye series for Disney+ and the Spawn movie, which doesn't seem to be in danger of happening anytime soon. Point being, if he wanted to, Renner could probably find the time to put together an album, and maybe even a tour. Is that going to happen? Honestly, we have no idea. But Clint Barton is making music now. That much is certain. Feel free to check out the song for yourself below. To dive a bit deeper, head on over to Jeremy Renner's Spotify page.
