Jesse L. Martin left one NBC series only to come back for another. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Martin has signed on to co-star in The Philanthropist.

Martin will star alongside James Purefoy in the new midseason drama for the network. Martin recently left NBC's long-running drama Law & Order and the network wanted him back for this series.

The show will revolve around Teddy Rist (Purefoy), a billionaire who uses his wealth and power to help those in trouble around the world. Martin will portray Phillip Maidstone, Teddy's longtime friend and business partner.

Production will begin shortly on the series, with a debut slated for March or April of 2009.
