Jessica Jones’ arrival on Disney+ following the movie of the show from Netflix saw Krysten Ritter announcing herself as the newest Disney Princess. Ritter joked about her newly found status as Jessica Jones and the other Marvel Television shows such as Daredevil, The Punisher and The Defenders all joined the Disney streaming platform alongside the MCU content. Of course the darker and more violent shows have a stronger rating that other Marvel fare and is one of the reasons Disney+ recently added a parental control setting as they movie to adding more adult themed content to their formally family-orientated U.S version.

With a whole stream of mature themes such as drug and alcohol use, gore, violence and sex, Jessica Jones rightfully earns its TV-MA rating, but fans of the super-strong private investigator wouldn’t have her any other way. Like Daredevil, there have been a number of questions around whether Ritter will be returning as the character in the future of the MCU, and similarly how close to the tone of the original series will her character be if Jones does return.

With Jessica Jones now available on Disney+, it was only right for Ritter to let people know via her Instagram account, when he quipped at being a “Disney Princess” as he urged everyone to “go (re) watch Jessica Jones” in her new Disney home. With a lot of speculation about her possible MCU return in an upcoming show or movie, could her post be just another sign of Jessica’s future?

The arrival of Marvel Television’s heroes on Disney+ has caused some people to call out Disney for adding mature content to the streaming platform. However, new parental controls have been added to allow subscribers to ensure their children don’t see anything that they don’t want them to, and in international territories such as the U.K. all of this has been the norm since the platform launched.

While the U.S. market see almost all of Disney’s mature content head to Hulu, this content has been available elsewhere via the Star brand on the Disney+ app and site, so really Disney are just doing what is really necessary to align them with other platforms and other countries. Whether Hulu will eventually become a part of Disney+ in the U.S. is something that is unknown at the moment, but with the parental control feature now in place it seems likely that there will be a lot more mature content coming to Disney+ in future, and some of that will be coming from the MCU.

Charlie Cox’s Daredevil has already made his debut appearance in the MCU, and while there is a possibility his next appearance will tone down some of the violence seen in the original Netflix series, with other R-rated characters such as Deadpool heading down the line, how these darker characters will be dealt with by Marvel Studios is just something else that is going to make the next couple of years very interesting for the MCU.
